Frequently Asked Questions

Is Weightlifting safe?

Yes! Weightlifting is very safe and is shown to be even safer than sports like football. Strength training is also shown to help prevent sports injuries by 1/3 compared to stretching, which has no benefit in preventing sports injuries. This meta-analysis also showed that overuse injuries can be halved with proper strength training.

Can I participate if I am in another sport?

Yes! Weightlifting translates into sports VERY well and is highly encouraged you do both. If you are wanting to do the sport of weightlifting but are participating in another sport at the time, talk to Coach Allen. She will work with you to coordinate programming. This way we can prevent overtraining and help you with what you need.

What about overtraining?

The job of a good and quality coach is to watch for overtraining. If an athlete is worried about overtraining with starting the club, the first thing would be to have a conversation with Coach Allen about their worries. This will help put the athlete in a good spot. The ways Coach Allen will be protecting athletes is proper programming, double checking what students are doing in strength and conditioning during the school day and watching athlete performance.

Will there be competitions?

Yes! We typically compete at the Driftless Showdown hosted by UW – Lacrosse in December. We will also be hosting our own competition in May of 2026!
